S&P Global sells its geoscience software to SLB and launches Titan, an AI platform built for 110,000 upstream users across 113 countries

S&P Global has agreed to sell its upstream geoscience and petroleum engineering software to SLB, while separately launching an artificial intelligence platform called Titan for energy data users. The deal, announced on April 24, 2026, marks one of the larger shifts in how oil and gas companies access and manage subsurface data.
The sale transfers tools including Kingdom Software and Petra, which are widely used by geologists and engineers for analysing rock formations and planning wells, to SLB, the Paris-listed energy technology group. SLB intends to fold the products into its existing digital platforms, which are already used by national and international oil companies for subsurface analysis and production planning.
"Unconventional markets demand speed, scale, and efficiency," SLB's chief executive said, adding that the software portfolio would allow the company to serve operators across the full range of subsurface and planning needs.
Separately, S&P Global is launching Titan, a platform it says will serve 110,000 users across 4,000 organisations in 113 countries. Rather than requiring users to search for data, Titan is designed to surface relevant market signals and upstream patterns before teams identify a need. The platform is in beta testing, with a full commercial release targeted for later in 2026.
The two companies also plan to develop new AI models aimed at specific upstream challenges. S&P Global's proprietary data will continue to underpin the tools being transferred to SLB, maintaining a data relationship between the two firms after the transaction closes.
The deal still requires regulatory clearance, with closing expected in late 2026 or the first quarter of 2027. For operators across the Middle East and other producing regions, the transaction points to a broader consolidation underway in energy software, where fragmented tools are being absorbed into integrated platforms combining data, analytics, and operational planning.
