NMDC Energy wins at the 2026 Oil & Gas Middle East Awards for transforming offshore operations through measurable, large-scale AI deployment

The Ritz-Carlton in Dubai is better known for luxury than for data science. Yet on March 31, the ballroom played host to a shift in how the oil industry views the machine. At the 2026 Oil & Gas Middle East Awards, the talk was not of what artificial intelligence (AI) might do, but of what it is already doing on the seabed.
NMDC Energy took the top prize for AI deployment, beating a crowded field of more than 300 entries. In a sector where "digital transformation" is often a polite term for expensive trials, NMDC was rewarded for something more rare: scale. Judges noted measurable gains in safety and response times across offshore operations. The company is betting heavily on this efficiency, aiming for revenues of AED 24.5 billion by 2028. For them, code is now as vital as steel.
The evening was less a competition and more a coronation for regional heavyweights. ADNOC walked away with 14 awards, covering everything from sustainability to digital platforms. This dominance suggests that in the Gulf, technology is no longer an experimental add-on. It has become a central part of the energy value chain.
The shift is significant. For years, AI in the oil patch was a solution looking for a problem. Today, the problem is cost and safety in increasingly complex environments. By rewarding proof over promise, the industry is signaling a new era of pragmatism. The message to global operators is clear: the price of entry is now a proven track record in automation. In the race to modernize the oil field, the Middle East is no longer just participating; it is setting the tempo.
